Location from town. Relaxing creek nearby.

We stayed in cabin #204. No hotel staff to check and see if you needed anything. We ran out of toilet paper, clean towels, trash bags for two trash cans in cabin and soap. To add to the already low conditions were when we arrived it was "extremely" hot inside the cabin. The small a/c unit wasn't enough to cool it down. No air flow in the back bedrooms to the point we had to go into town and buy three fans just to move the air around inside the cabin. Very uncomfortable temperature inside the cabin during the stay. Also the spa on the deck in which we thought would be a relaxing end to our day ended up being a flop. Only half of the spa jets worked and some of the controls were broken. In the Murphy bed we found bed bugs, hope to god we didn't bring any of them home !!! There were only three pans to cook for six people. The pans were one small fry pan, one very small pot and one the next size up, We couldn't cook or eat all at the same time. Very disappointed in the hotel and the conditions. On the web site it states, "indoor pool". Were is the indoor pool. There isn't one. We were looking forward to staying there again before we stayed this time. Now once inside, we are not so sure we want to stay again. Feel we didn't get our moneys worth at all. We hope Diamond resorts or Kohl's Ranch will make something good from this experience.

  • Group of friends

The location is great. The hotel rooms that face the cabins and Tonto creek have a very pleasant view off of their porches. The prime rib was some of the best I've had in a long time. I will be back.

They were very busy (full to capacity) so our room wasn't ready at check-in and then they gave us a key to the wrong room. Everything was straighten out and the balance of our visit was great.

  • Older travelers

It was small and cozy and had that great western feel with all the modern amenities you need...accept cell phone. We did get wifi though!!!

While I was having some amazing quiet time in the lovely western loft above the lobby, the cleaning lady brought her vaccuum up and vaccuumed!!!! I had to leave it was so loud.

  • Older travelers

The scenery, the staff, the food

The pet smell we had Pet friendly room and we do not like pets

  • Couple

We escaped the city for a single night away & loved the beautiful scenery of the Lodge. The staff was friendly, the room was beautifully decorated & since we were in a dead cell phone area we could completely unwind & relax. Even though this trip was just for the two of us, we could easily bring the kids with us next time since the rooms & on-property entertainment would easily accommodate our 5 children.

The food at the steakhouse wasn't nearly as impressive as other reviews I had read, which was a bit disappointing. But the waitstaff was very helpful.

  • Older travelers

I lived in the area many years so was familiar with Kohl's, know some of the owners and many staff personally. It's always been the favorite place to house overflow houseguests over the years, never had a single complaint. Heated pool was lovely in January! The restaurant manager is a good friend and I have to admit from the many years I've known Randy, he has a ton of experience taking an average restaurant and making it into something very enjoyable. The private little sitting areas that are accessible through a door from the rooms are a lovely touch considering that the view is mountains and pines.

I'm not crazy about AZ after living there 30 years, but in AZ this is one of the loveliest spots you'll find. Friendly people and you can relax, ride horses, hike up the mountains, whatever.

  • Older travelers

    very nice accomadations, beautiful scenery

  • Family with children

The cabin was nicely furnished and very comfortable. There were a lot of outdoor games available. The outdoor pool was heated

There was no cell phone service at the location, and although they gave us a wireless code, it was nnot working. They did have a computer in the main lodge to use if needed

  • Older travelers

Food was good, staff was very friendly, room was in good shame but could use a little extra going over.

My wife and I agreed that the cost of the pets staying needs review. Most people like to take there pets with them. We only stay where pets are welcome. The cost at most places if a flat fee, have not seen more then $20 per pet per stay. We were charged $20 per pet per night for a total of $120.00. To us that will be a factor for us to stay in the future. We enjoyed staying there and would consider returing but the pet cost will be what makes our decision.

  • Family with children

Easy to find, amazing scenery, great location 30 miles from Tonto Natural Bridge. The rooms are clean, fireplace, dvd/cd player, kitchenette fully equiped and had everything I needed and more! Beds are so comfortable. You literally don't have to leave as there is plenty to do offered at this hotel.. They rent DVD's and board games, cards at the front desk, they have a playground, tennis, basketball court, volleyball, horseshoe, golf and other sports available, there is a steakhouse right on the premises. Heated outdoor pool and jacuzzi, sauna, fire pit at night we made smores while they had music playing. Fitness room and business center if you need internet. They have many activities to get involved with like Bingo, cookie jar class etc.. you just have to check the schedule. The food at the Saloon was delicious and reasonable prices. We played pool after dinner. There is a beautiful creek running along outside all the balconies with hammocks and rocking swings to enjoy along with plenty of grills to bbq. Horseback riding is available walking distance from rooms, $30 per hour on the beautiful trails. My daughter and I went here for her 17th birthday and she loved it and wants to come back with friends. We never rode horses before so we tried the 1hr trail ride and the horses were not only beautiful but great for beginners. The people at the stable and the ranch were unbelievably helpful and friendly.. They go out of their way to make sure you're taken care of.. Soo super sweet they all were. They even baked and gave my daughter a plate full of homemade cookies for her birthday! She was thrilled and I must say the people right down to the maids are what makes this hotel soo inviting not to mention the beautiful scenery, sooo much to do, and I only paid $110 for two nights! We will definitely be visiting again with more people very very soon! I highly recommend this hotel and stables for family and the cabins are even romantic enough for romantic honeymoons! Oh..

They don't have internet access inside your room or cell phone service but they do have phones inside your room and it's free to make local calls.

  • Older travelers

Everything about Kohl's Ranch was unique. The Staff was friendly and it was very quiet. The room and bathroom was spotless and the view from our back patio was beautiful. We ate in the Restaurant Fri. And Sat night. The food was delicious. Elk Chili and Prime Rib. The staff in the bar couldn't have been nicer and the live entertainment was a real treat. We are making plans for our next trip back.

The only thing I didn't like was the misrepresentation on the room. After we booked the room it said we would be getting 1 King or 1 oversized Full and a 2 burner stove. We got two double beds and no stove. Everything worked out, but what about what we requested? Did a family of 4 get 1 full bed? When we gave the front desk a heads up, they said it's better if you go thru Kohl's Ranch because you never get what you want thru Booked.net

  • Older travelers

    Clean, pleasanr staff and comfortable

Restaurant left a little to be desired. French toast was deep fried, prime rib was good, but the presentation with all of the plastic containers made it feel like take out food!

  • Older travelers

    Excellent location

Our room was not cleaned during our stay and clean towels were not provided after the first day

  • Couple

Great short drive from Phoenix. Close to Payson, yet close to the woods

Rooms are a bit "dated", for the price satisfactory though.

  • Single

Did have Wifi so was able to post videos, but very slow.

Speed of the wifi service, very slow. At time ist was on 15kbs per second, and some systems cut me off.
